Jaywing supports parliamentary push for mandatory pregnancy loss leave

Jaywing

In recent discussions within Parliament, there has been a growing call to mandate leave for those experiencing pregnancy loss. Jaywing stands in full support of this movement, advocating for policies that provide necessary time and support for all employees during such challenging periods.

As the conversation about miscarriage leave gains momentum, Jaywing recognises the importance of this issue and the positive impact that supportive workplace policies can have on employee wellbeing. The call for mandatory leave is not just about providing time off; it's about recognising the emotional and physical toll of pregnancy loss and the need for a compassionate response that supports recovery and mental health.

At Jaywing, we have already implemented a policy that aligns with these values. Our approach offers 10 days of paid leave to any employee affected by pregnancy loss, including partners, acknowledging that the journey of recovery varies from person to person. This policy covers a variety of situations including failed IVF transfers, early miscarriage, and ectopic pregnancies, ensuring that support is available regardless of the circumstances or the stage of pregnancy.

Amelia Johnson, Jaywing's Head of People and Culture, reflects on the policy: "We believe in creating an environment where our employees feel supported in every aspect of their lives. Our pregnancy loss policy is about more than just time off. It's about providing a supportive network and the necessary resources to help our team members through their recovery."

The benefits of such policies extend beyond the individuals directly affected. They foster a workplace culture that values empathy and understanding, which in turn enhances overall employee morale and loyalty. By supporting our employees in times of need, we build a stronger, more resilient workforce.

As this legislative push continues, we encourage other businesses to consider the advantages of implementing similar policies. Supporting employees through pregnancy loss not only aids in their personal healing but also contributes to a healthier, more productive workplace. It's a testament to a company's commitment to its people and a step forward in modernising employment practices to address real-life challenges.
