Jaywing wins gold with “mind-blowing” work for Welcome to Sheffield

Every city needs to market itself. But that doesn’t mean every city’s website needs to look the same. When Marketing Sheffield and the City Futures department at Sheffield City Council approached Jaywing to redesign the Welcome to Sheffield site, it quickly became clear that in a world of identical city websites there was a real opportunity to help Sheffield stand out. A site as layered and purposeful as the city itself. Something that captures its thriving creative culture and genuine sense of community.

Here’s what the judges had to say:

''A modular, dynamic, and visually interesting site showcasing the municipality in a contemporary fashion. The editor experience looks intuitive and easily customisable using the design system and templates. For a municipal site, this has character and charm while serving multiple sectors and visitors. It was simply mind-blowing how the team managed to extract the essence of what the client wanted and turn the website into a beautifully crafted experience.”

A key objective for the website was to raise awareness of Sheffield as a destination for visitors, businesses, investment, conferences and events.  Since these target audiences are so diverse and distinct, ownable design and tailored content were a priority. The project also merged two other websites – ‘The Outdoor City’ and ‘What Makes Sheffield’ – enabling the new website to become a truly collaborative hub showcasing what the city has to offer.

After establishing both a hardworking brand strategy and new visual identity for Welcome to Sheffield, being able to use these to inform the website has been hugely rewarding.
