Code in the Dark sees 25 developers competing across five heats, culminating in a nail-biting final in which the winners of each round compete against each other. Our panel of judges chooses the winner of each round based on accuracy of design, clever use of coding and a percentage of completion.
Contestants are provided with a previously unseen screenshot of a website, unique to each round, and are given just 15 minutes to recreate it using HTML and CSS. However, they cannot see the output of their work, only the audience can. So contenders are ‘in the dark’ about whether or not their builds are accurate.
The winner takes home £150 in Amazon vouchers and the coveted Code in the Dark trophy!
And there’s another twist…
The event is conducted in an intense party atmosphere, with electro music, lasers and smoke which are all there to put the contestants out of their comfort zone whilst livening up the crowd.
Code in the Dark takes place on Thursday 25th April as part of Leeds Digital Festival at Duke studios. It is free to enter as both a contestant and as part of the audience.
